CEN Workshop and review
This morning, Gerhard chaired a CEN Workshop as part of its kick-off meeting.
The workshop focused on the revision of CWA 17815:2021, entitled “Materials characterisation – Terminology, metadata and classification”. This work is based on insights from the NanoMECommons project that we are taking part in.
The CEN workshop aims to establish a common language (definitions and vocabulary) for materials characterisation and modelling. It aims to update a previous CEN Workshop Agreement on the same topic. Our work on the Characterisation Methodology Ontology (CHAMEO) will underpin the updates to provide a machine-readable reference for the characterisation terminology and metadata, and a clearer structure to the items that are required for documentation of characterisation experiments and the related data processing. The documentation of materials modelling, which was the topic of another CWA, were also discussed.
CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, is an association that brings together the national standardization bodies across 34 European countries. It provides a platform for the development of European Standards and other technical documents in relation to various kinds of products, materials, services and processes.
